Summer Fruits

coconut – rough brown spheres with surprisingly silky sweet juice inside; shreds of pure white snow with the taste of tropical countries; sweet, but not too much

~ the smell of summer sand and summer seas

mango – a piece of home in strange tides; fleshy and round and the epitome of ‘fruit’; a perfect harmony of sweet and sour

~ like gold, but more edible

watermelon – a bump of green fruit with papery red flesh; a blood red sea enclosed in a lightning bolt fence of forest and grass; your mother probably swelled up like it with you inside

~ endless spoonfuls of refreshment for breezy backyard days

It’s (near the end of) summer.
